Top craftsmen from several Cincinnati, Ohio solid surface fabrication shops recently participated in a training event at Distributor Service Inc.’s Sharonville, Ohio facility. Aristech Technical Manager Aaron Davis presented the seminar, which included a catered lunch, classroom instruction and hands-on training.

With more than 20 years of solid surface fabrication experience, Davis taught several educational blocks on the latest materials and fabrication techniques. The event, which ran for approximately five hours, highlighted the best way to fabricate an L-top counter, making on-site solid surface repairs, how to fabricate undermounted sinks and the secrets of finishing solid surface to a gloss or satin finish.

“I know that everyone who attended got a lot out of the session,” said DSI Cincinnati Sales Manager Jim Clugsten. “Whether they’re new to solid surface or they’ve been working at it for years, there was something for everyone to take away.”

Graduates of the seminar received an Aristech Solid Surface Fabricator Certification. This certification adds the individual’s shop to an internal Aristech list of preferred fabricators. The list is used to recommend certified fabricators to general contractors, designers, and architects. Also, a certified shop can agree to be an officially authorized Aristech warranty provider, being called upon to make repairs to the product in the field.

According to Aristech Territory Sales Manager Greta Leas, the certification training may be offered in the future at some of DSI’s other Mid-Western facilities. Or, if there is a special need, fabricators may be able to arrange for an employee certification class at their own shop.

“I encourage solid surface fabricators from across DSI’s footprint to join our network of certified operators,” Leas said. “Not only will they sharpen their skills and become innovators in the industry, they can also set themselves up to be a go-to shop for future solid surface warranty and fabrication projects.”
